Healthy once again
Mon, Jun 12, 2023, 7:39 PM
Anudike-Uzomah looks to be healthy again after dealing with a thumb and hamstring injuries, Charles Goldman of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Anudike-Uzomah appears to have recovered from the thumb injury he suffered before the draft, as he participated in OTAs last Thursday. Head coach Andy Reid said that the 2023 first-round pick has also been dealing with a hamstring injury, but he seems to have recovered from that as well. Now that he's healthy, Anudike-Uzomah will look to help Kansas City defend their Super Bowl title during the upcoming season.
Making an impression
Mon, Jun 12, 2023, 2:50 PM
Prince has impressed his coaches and teammates during voluntary practice, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Price went undrafted out of Tulsa, but he's making the most of his opportunity in Kansas City. Not only has he shown an ability to excel as a pass catcher out of the backfield, but he could also potentially earn a role on special teams, specifically as a kick returner. Special teams coach, Dave Toub, believes Prince has an opportunity to handle that role, depending on how he progresses during training camp and the preseason, despite not returning kicks in college. The 23-year-old still may face an uphill battle making the 53-man roster, but he's at least proving he deserves consideration thus far.
Gary Jennings
Gary Jennings Back with Kansas City
Tue, May 10, 2022, 4:02 PM
The Chiefs re-signed Jennings on Tuesday, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
Analysis: Jennings joined Kansas City on a reserve/future contract in January but was let go to make room for potential undrafted free agents. However, the 29-year-old has rejoined the team following the conclusion of rookie minicamp. He's appeared in 10 regular-season games in the NFL and has hauled in two of five targets for 32 yards.
Returns to Kansas City

The Chiefs re-signed Reiter on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Reiter appeared in six games with the Dolphins last year and joined the Chiefs in March but was let go following the draft. However, Kansas City opted to bring the veteran center back following the conclusion of rookie minicamp.
Kehinde Oginni
Kehinde Oginni Gets deal with Chiefs
Mon, May 9, 2022, 7:06 PM
Oginni signed with the Chiefs on Monday as an undrafted free agent, Matt McMullen of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Oginni was part of the NFL's International Player Pathway program and hails from Nigeria. The 6-foot-7 tight end will try to earn a roster spot amongst the crowded Chiefs' tight end depth chart.

The Chiefs signed Rose as an undrafted free agent Friday.
Analysis: Rose was productive over his four seasons at Iowa State, most recently, logging 73 tackles (36 solo), three sacks and a pass defense over 11 appearances in 2021. He'll attempt to secure a roster spot as a depth player during the offseason.
Skyy Moore
Skyy Moore Picks up hamstring injury
Sat, May 7, 2022, 12:57 PM
Moore could be limited during the Chiefs' rookie OTAs due to a hamstring injury, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The 2022 second-round pick didn't have any major injuries pre-draft, so this hardly appears to be problematic. The Western Michigan product is expected to compete with Mecole Hardman and Marquez Valdes-Scantling for the No. 2 role opposite JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Noah Gray
Noah Gray Reprises backup role
Fri, May 6, 2022, 12:29 PM
Following the recent NFL Draft, Gray remains in the mix to back up Travis Kelce along with Blake Bell and Jody Fortson (Achilles), Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Of course, as long as Kelce, who logged 159 targets last season, remains available, there's not going to be much volume for Kansas City's reserve tight ends. In 2021, Gray caught seven of his 10 targets for 36 yards and a TD in 16 games. Meanwhile, Bell logged 13 targets in 16 contests and Fortson five in six outings. In the event that Kelce misses time for any reason in 2022, it's unclear who would fill in as the team's starting TE, with a time-share approach in which Gray -- a 2021 fifth-rounder -- would likely be a factor.

The Chiefs have signed Begue as an undrafted free agent.
Analysis: Begue caught 46 passes for 620 yards and three touchdowns for Incarnate Word during the 2021 campaign. The 5-foot-11 wideout joins a crowded pass-catching group, but the Chiefs will likely give everybody an extended look now that they are without Tyreek Hill, who was traded to the Dolphins this offseason. Regardless, Begue still figures to be a long shot to make the roster.

The Chiefs have signed Crum as an undrafted free agent, Nick Camino of WKYC-TV 3 reports.
Analysis: Crum completed 244 of 381 passes for 3,187 yards with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions during his final season at Kent State. The 6-foot-3 quarterback figures to compete with Shane Buechele and Anthony Gordon for the No. 3 QB spot behind Patrick Mahomes and Chad Henne.

The Chiefs have signed Ealy as an undrafted free agent, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports.
Analysis: Ealy ran 384 times for 2,235 yards and 20 touchdowns during his three-year career at Ole Miss. The 5-foot-8 running back will compete during training camp with Tayon Fleet-Davis, who was also signed as an undrafted free agent.

The Chiefs have signed Fleet-Davis as an undrafted free agent, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Analysis: Fleet-Davis ran 128 times for 721 yards and eight touchdowns during his final campaign at Maryland. He'll likely compete during training camp with Jerrion Ealy, who also signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent.
Unlikely to participate in OTAs
Tue, May 3, 2022, 1:50 PM
Fenton is rehabbing his shoulder and unlikely to participate in training camp, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Chiefs drafted three cornerbacks and recently traded for Lonnie Johnson, which suggests Fenton's current situation is a bit worrisome. The 2019 sixth-round pick appeared in 14 games for Kansas City last season and registered 49 tackles, seven pass deflections and one forced fumble. Teicher adds that the Chiefs are hopeful Fenton will be ready for training camp, but their recent moves imply they are preparing to be without him.
Dealt to Kansas City
Mon, May 2, 2022, 10:47 PM
Johnson was traded to the Chiefs from the Texans on Monday in exchange for a 2024 conditional seventh-round pick, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Johnson was a consistent piece of Houston's secondary over the last three seasons, appearing in 14 or more games in each campaign. He finished with 55 tackles (38 solo) and five passes defensed and picked off three passes in 2021.

The Chiefs selected Johnson in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 259th overall.
Analysis: Can you tell the Chiefs wanted to improve their cornerback personnel? Johnson is the fourth cornerback they selected in the 2022 draft after Trent McDuffie, Joshua Williams and Jaylen Watson. Johnson is the most athletic of any of them, boasting a 4.38-second 40, 42-inch vertical jump and 129-inch broad jump at 5-foot-10, 199 pounds. With short arms it's possible Johnson will focus on slot snaps rather than boundary corner.
Headed west to Kansas City

The Chiefs selected Pacheco in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 251st overall.
Analysis: Pacheco might be a mere seventh-round pick, but don't count him out. He was one of the most athletic running backs at the combine, boasting a 4.37-second 40 at a sturdy 5-foot-10, 216 pounds, and he runs with a noticeable motor on tape. His production at Rutgers was quite bad, but it's worth considering an exemption in his case given how dysfunctional the offensive line and quarterbacks were on that team. The odds are not in Pacheco's favor as a seventh-round pick and he's well behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Ronald Jones, but just keep an eye on him.
Seventh-round pick by Kansas City
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 5:19 PM
The Chiefs selected Watson in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 243rd overall.
Analysis: Watson (6-foot-2, 195 pounds) is an interesting Cover-3 type corner prospect, and one who looks like a good pick for the Chiefs this late. Like third-round pick and fellow rookie corner Joshua Williams, Watson is a big corner with standout athleticism and gives the Chiefs a trait match to Charvarius Ward, who left the Chiefs in free agency. Watson has long arms (32 and 1/4 inches) to jam receivers, and elite leaping athleticism (38-inch vertical, 132-inch broad jump) to defend them above the rim.

Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 1:11 PM
The Chiefs selected Kinnard in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 145th overall.
Analysis: A four-star recruit out of high school, Kinnard played 46 games (39 starts) over four years at Kentucky. He mostly played right tackle in college, but he may project as a guard at the NFL level. Kinnard may need to refine his skills before getting a starting role, but his ability to play multiple positions could provide a quicker path to the field.
Kansas City selects in Round 4
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 12:35 PM
The Chiefs selected Williams in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 135th overall.
Analysis: Williams (6-foot-3, 195 pounds) played at tiny Fayetteville State and might need some development time before he's ready to play a leading role for the Chiefs, but that developmental upside is considerable and he's a good trait match to former top Chiefs corner Charvarius Ward, who left for San Francisco in free agency. With a huge frame and long reach, Williams has most prototypical traits for outside, press-heavy cornerback play.

The Chiefs selected Chenal in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 103rd overall.
Analysis: Chenal (6-foot-3, 250 pounds) would be comparable to a tank if he weren't so fast (4.53-second 40), and he was far and away the best player on a suffocating Wisconsin defense. He falls this far over coverage concerns, but his 4.53 speed and a 41-inch vertical at 250 pounds are stellar numbers. He's projected to start out behind Willie Gay and Nick Bolton at linebacker, but Chenal could become the best of the three in time.
